A new decking material is available that needs no maintenance and doesn't crack, split, or warp. The exceptionally durable exterior decking material is made from fiberglass reinforced plastic (FRP) that is both attractive and is expected to last the life of the home without routine maintenance. Traditional wood decking materials, both preservative-treated and naturally rot-resistant materials, have a life expectancy ranging from 10 to 20 years when maintained periodically with chemical sealants. FRP decking is stronger and more durable than traditional decking, and retains an attractive appearance without maintenance.

This new decking material is made of pultruded fiberglass reinforced plastic. Pultrusion is a process in which continuous strands of fiberglass are pulled through a bath of polyester resins to coat the fibers, and then through a die to give the desired profile. FRP materials are strong enough to be used as structural beams in industrial applications that require resistance to chemical attack and fire. The material is also highly scratch and impact resistant and is colored throughout, which allows it to retain its looks with only periodic washing.

FRP decking is typically sold as an entire system, including deck boards, attachment clips, trim, and hand rail material. The decking material is typically attached to a standard preservative-treated wood sub-frame. Deck profiles are "C" shaped, sized comparable to 2 x 4 and 2 x 6 lumber, and can be run at 45 or 90 degree angles to the support joists. Edge trim is used to cover lumber support framing and hide the hollow profiles of the deck boards. Handrail assemblies are also available that include include handrail, bottom rail, and spindles. Optionally, systems can accommodate the installation of an integrated bench.

The initial cost of FRP decking is significantly higher than conventional alternatives, despite its overall long-term value. Decks should be designed so that full-width planks are used (planks cannot be cut to narrower widths, like wood, to fill in small gaps).

therwise, gaps will be left between planks. Preservative-treated wood structural framing lasts considerably longer when sheltered by the FRP deckboards, but it may be less durable than the FRP decking and rail material.

Low Maintenance

Because composite resists sun and water damage, it maintains its color and beauty for years. You do not need to paint, stain or seal it – often burdensome yearly projects with traditional wood. And, because it resists mildew and warping, you won't need to replace rotting, uneven or insect-damaged boards. This saves you time and money over the life of your deck and fence. Caring for composite is easy and will keep it looking new year after year.

Advanced Color Technology

Whichever composite color you choose, it will stay rich, vibrant and naturally beautiful for years to come. composite is made with high-quality raw materials blended with UV-inhibiting pigments to produce products consistent in color. Because of the quality of material used, composite products fade less than alternative products.

You can create dozens of color combinations with our 11 decking and nine railing colors

Safety

Composite decking offers products that meet the Americans with Disabilities Act standards for slip-resistant walking surfaces, and unlike traditional wood, composite decking is splinter-free. So at home, you can relax and kick off your shoes. At your business, you'll feel better about doing more to keep your customers safe. And because composite's surface also resists water damage, it's ideal for poll deck and boat docks.

Durability

Traditional wood can be beautiful – but not for long. Wet springs, blistering summers and frigid winters quickly take their toll, leaving your wood application splintered and warped. Our products are made from a patented process that results in superior, consistent, low-maintenance material. Your composite deck and fence will look like new for years to come.

Increases the Value of Your Home

Composite decking not only adds value to your lifestyle, it adds value to your home. When you add a composite composite deck – or use it to replace a wood deck – you'll recoup much of your investment when you sell your home. Remodeling Magazine's 2007 Cost vs. Value Report estimates a national average of nearly 80% return on investment for deck additions*. In some areas, the return is close to 100%. To maximize your return, Realty Times suggests using a non-rectangle design, and making your deck an extension of your living space.

*Based on a 16′ x 20′ deck set in simple linear pattern; using pressure-treated joists supported by 4x4 posts anchored to concrete piers; built-in bench and planter of the same decking material; stairs, assuming three steps to grade; complete railing using a matching system made of the same composite as the decking material.

Advanced Roofing Sysytems helps to create a more sustainable world – one piece at a time.

Our advanced productshave the perfect balance of quality and sustainability. Our decking, railing and fencing products are an attractive, low-maintenance alternative to wood and a one-time purchase for most homeowners.Since composite decking will not splinter or warp and don’t require any staining or sealing, the wasteful cycle of repair and replacement typical of wood is dramatically reduced.

No trees are cut down for the purpose of making our products.

Our wood flour is recycled from the woodworking industry and keeps more than 100 million pounds of wood waste out of landfills each year.

More than 28 million pounds of scrap product is reclaimed and put back into our manufacturing process each year, which saves even more wood and plastic waste from reaching landfills.

Advanced Roofing strives to act responsibly in our daily operations:

Our product brochures are printed on paper with 30% recycled fibers using soy-based inks.

Product cartons are made with 25% recycled material.

The water in our manufacturing facilities is recycled using a closed loop water system.  Reusing the water in our plants saves over 140,000 gallons every day.

We use natural light and energy-efficient bulbs to save energy.

We ship many products by railcar. One railcar carries a load equivalent to four tractor-trailer trucks, which in turn keeps about 500 trucks off the road each year.

We recycle our skids and corrugate.

Fire regulations and codes continue to become more important in the building industry.

We are committed to manufacturing products that are compliant with these requirements and safe for your customers.
